The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trekking is one of Nepal’s most remote, adventurous, and challenging trekking routes, designed for trekkers who want a true Himalayan expedition experience. Circling the mighty Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) — the 7th highest mountain in the world — this trek offers a rare combination of untouched wilderness, glacier crossings, high mountain passes, and dramatic Himalayan landscapes.
Unlike popular teahouse treks such as Everest Base Camp trek or the Annapurna Circuit trek, the Dhaulagiri Circuit is a full camping trek, requiring professional logistics, experienced guides, porters, and proper acclimatization. The highlight of this trek is crossing two legendary Himalayan passes: French Pass (5,360m) and Dhampus Pass (5,240m), along with the unforgettable experience of trekking through the mystical Hidden Valley.
If you are searching for a less crowded trekking route in Nepal with raw mountain beauty and a true expedition atmosphere, the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is the perfect adventure.
The Dhaulagiri Circuit is often ranked among Nepal’s most adventurous treks due to its remote terrain, high passes, and expedition-style trekking.
The trek begins from the low hills of Myagdi, passing through traditional villages, terraced farmland, pine forests, and deep river valleys. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes into rugged alpine terrain, glacier moraines, and snow-covered ridges.
After reaching Italian Base Camp and Dhaulagiri Base Camp, trekkers cross the frozen wilderness of the glacier and climb to French Pass. The trek then enters the legendary Hidden Valley, a high-altitude basin surrounded by towering Himalayan giants.
The final major challenge is crossing Dhampus Pass before descending into the Kali Gandaki valley and ending the trek around Marpha or Jomsom, famous for apple orchards and the Thakali culture.
This trek is truly a journey through Nepal’s wildest Himalayan landscapes.
The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is considered one of Nepal’s most difficult trekking routes. It is not recommended for beginners.
To complete this trek comfortably, you should be able to walk 6–9 hours per day on rough terrain and handle cold temperatures at high altitude.
The best seasons for this trek are Spring and Autumn.
