Overview

Explore The Peaceful Dragon allows you to get a full glimpse of Bhutan. It will showcase the splendid Himalayas, famous dzongs, museums, and cultural heritage. Our journey begins at Paro where we will visit Drugyal Dzong and Tashicho dzong among others. We will then proceed to Punakha, a small town and emerging financial center of Bhutan. Here we will make a special visit to Punakha Dzong, once the capital of Bhutan but today a winter residence of the Chief Abbot of Bhutan.

Itinerary

01
ARRIVAL IN PARO

Fly to Paro with breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Kanchanjunga, Mt. Chomolari, Mt. Jichu Drack, etc. Upon arrival, warm welcome by our representative. Transfer to hotel. Orientation talk and film show about Bhutan. The rest of the day at leisure or visit the local market. O/N hotel.

PARO – THIMPHU

After breakfast, visit Bhutan’s National Museum, Tadzong. Then drive to Drugyal Dzong to view Mt. Chomolari, continue to drive to Thimpu. Arrive at Thimpu, check into the hotel. After lunch, visit Tashichodzong built in 1641 by Shabdrung Nawang namgyal. In the evening, a cultural show by Royal Dance Troupe. O/N hotel.

THIMPHU – PUNAKHA – PARO

After 2 & ½ hrs drive, reach the ancient capital of Punakha. The religious head Je Khenpo resides here during the winter. Visit the Punakha Dzong and Wangdipodrang Dzong. Drive to Paro through Dochu La Pass with the magnificent view of the Bhutanese mountains. O/N hotel.

PARO – DEPARTURE

Early morning, transfer to airport for flight to onward destination.

Here’s a complete rundown of what to bring if you’re planning a camping or tea-house trek in Nepal. Proper preparation and equipment for the conditions will go a long way to ensuring you have a great trekking experience.  What follows is a pretty comprehensive list and will make sure you are covered in the coldest months of the year. If you have questions on what you might need just ask us and keep in mind that Kathmandu is a great place to buy trekking gear at affordable prices.


IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AND ITEMS

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, pounds, or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler's checks, etc.

  • Extra layers, gloves, windbreaker, and poncho
