Itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrive Kathmandu
Arrive Kathmandu. Airport pickup and transport to hotel.

DAY 2 - Ride to Nuwakot - Optional: ride toward Dhunche & return
After breakfast we’ll head across town and pick up the bikes. From here we’ll wind through a short bit of the city before we quickly start climbing into Nepal’s Middle Hills. A twisting climb takes us over Shivapuri Mountain before descending down to the Trishuli River Valley. From the town of Trishuli we will have the option of riding further up the valley toward Dhunche and the Tibet border before returning to lovely hill-top lodging in Nuwakot. It’s an incredible ride with views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and into Tibet on clear days. In several places the road has been swept away by perennial landslides, and we cross on rocky and muddy patches. Enjoy drinks in the garden at this renovated farmhouse lodge while a garden-fresh dinner is being prepared. The only lodge on the mountain, we’ll be treated to serenity and great sunset views.

DAY 3 - Ride to Gorkha - Explore Gorkha Palace
After breakfast we’ll follow the Trishuli River as far as Mugling, before turning off toward Gorkha. Home of the legendary Gurkha soldiers, Gorkha also claims the title of home to Prithvi Narayan Shah, the king who united Nepal. A beautiful hill-top lodge awaits our arrival in Gorkha. Follow a local staff on a walking tour of the small village before dinner or choose to ride into Gorkha proper to explore the old palace compound. Then polish off the day with a meal prepared by the ever friendly, French-trained chef, and drinks on the terrace.

DAY 4 - Ride to Chitwan National Park - Optional: Jungle “Safari”
It’s a short day today, but that allows us the option to head out wildlife spotting in the evening. Option to take a jeep or elephant-back jungle safari in search of rhinos, tigers, spotted dear, wild boar, and more.  Arriving at the border of Chitwan National Park, we’ll check into our lodging near the jungle before having some down time to explore. Just be sure to meet up at the river’s edge for happy hour drinks!

DAY 5 - Ride to Daman
After a leisurely morning, we’ll take off across the plains of Nepal as far as Hetauda. From here we turn north and twist and turn our way back into the Middle Hills. It’s a fun stretch of road that takes us up to nearly 8000ft at Daman.

DAY 6 - Ride to Nagarkot - Explore Bhaktapur - Himalayan Viewpoint Lodging
More twisting roads this morning as we make our way toward the Pritvi Naryan Highway. From Naubise  we join the highway for a congested entrance to Kathmandu. We’ll skirt the busy city on the ring road before cruising east to the historical city-kingdom of Bhaktapur. Rich in architecture and temples from the 14th - 17th centuries, this is a fun place to wander and explore. We’ll eat lunch here before continuing on. From Bhaktapur it’s about a 40 minute ride on a narrow, winding road out of the Kathmandu Valley to the valley rim. Our hotel for the night is perched on the ridge with views back down into the Kathmandu Valley, and views of the Himalayan range on clear days.

DAY 7 - Ride to Charikot via South Route
Today’s route takes us along what is arguably one Nepal’s most fun-to-ride roads. Smoother than most, the first half of the south route is just a lot of fun!  For the last 75km we take a lesser traveled road north to Charikot. Weather permitting, enjoy views of the Gauri Shanker Himalaya. Hotel lodging in Charikot.

DAY 8 - Return via North Route to Kathmandu - Celebratory Dinner
Taking the northerly route back to Kathmandu today we’ll join up wit the main highway heading north toward Last Resort and the Tibet border. Back in Kathmandu we’ll return the bikes before going out for a celebratory dinner. Return to hotel.
