DAY 1: ARRIVE KATHMANDU
Our airport representative will welcome you at airport and you will be transferred to the designated hotel. Tour briefing will be given in the same hotel.
DAY 2 KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING
Sightseeing tour of 'Kathmandu City' once called 'Kantipur' or 'City of Glory' visiting Kasthamandap, Temple of the living Goddess called 'Kumari', Hanuman Dhoka, Kal Bhairab-God of Terror, Taleju Temple and 'Swayambunath', or 'The Monkey Temple'. This Buddhist stupa is majestically set high upon a hill over looking the Kathmandu valley.
Lunch on your own and can be had at one of the many good standard restaurants around town. Our guide will recommend the same.
Then we visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur, or city of Devotees, also known as Bhadgaon, visiting Durbar square, Lion gate, the five storied Nyatopolo Temple, the tallest of its kind in Nepal, and the palace of 55 windows. The film, LITTLE BUDDHA was shot here, among other places in Nepal.Overnight at hotel.
DAY 03 KATHMANDU (1300) - ZHANGMU (2,500M)/NYALAM (3700M):123 KM/156 KM
Early morning scenic drive to KODARI (Nepal - Tibet border) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside and after necessary border formalities both at Nepalese, an hour adventurous uphill drive by truck (normally) or 2 hour walk uphill (in case of landslide) to Chinese immigration, check-in to hotel or continue drive to NYALAM. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 04 - ZHANGMU/NYALAM - TINGRI (4300M)/LHATSE (4,350M):225 KM/244 KM
Day drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world with the typical view of Tibetan landscape offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world crossing over LALUNGLA (5,050 M), from where, weather permitting,breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including MT CHO OYU (8201 M) & MT XISHAPAGMA (8012M) but dwarfed by the vastness of the Tibetan plateau. From TINGRI, one can ENJOY the magnificence of MT. EVEREST (8,848 M). Overnight at hotel.
DAY 05 - TINGRI/LHATSE - XIGATSE (3,900M): 244 KM
Continue scenic drive crossing over GYATCHU LA (5,220M), the highest pass en route to LHASA via LHATSE from where a road to MT KAILASH bifurcates to the west. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 06 - XIGATSE - GYANTSE (3,950M): 90 KM
Morning sightseeing to the PANCHEN LAMA'S TASHILHUMPU MONASTERY. Drive to GYANTSE and visit to the KUMBUM STUPA & PHALKOR MONASTERY. Overnight at hotel.
DAY 07 - GYANTSE - LHASA (3,650M): 261 KM
Full day picturesque drive crossing over KAROLA (5,010M), KAMBALA (4,794M), colourful YAMDROK LAKE and the Tibetan lifeline river BRAHMA PUTRA (YARLUNG TSANGPO) - Overnight at hotel.
DAY 08 - IN LHASA
Today will be spent visiting several of Lhasa's many monasteries in the company of a guide-interpreter. One of these is the Sera Monastery, one of the best preserved monasteries in Tibet. Within it's white-washed walls and golden roofs, several hundred monks live and study.
After lunch we'll visit the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, as well as the Jokhang Temple. This temple is the most sacred shrine in Tibet and there is always a procession of devout Tibetans through the complex. Surrounding the Jokhang is the Barkor - a maze of narrow cobbled streets which is the central market of Lhasa.
DAY 09 - IN LHASA
This morning we visit the Potala Palace which dominates the city of Lhasa. A spectacular building, it contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand state rooms and many important chapels. There has been a palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present palace was constructed in the 17th century.A visit to the Drepung Monastery this afternoon will complete a truly awe-inspiring day. Founded in the 14th century, this monastery was once the largest in the world. with a population of around 10,000 monks. These days that figure is down to several hundred, but there is still much here of interest as it was left relatively unscathed during the Cultural Revolution.
DAY 10- FLY KATHMANDU
Morning drive [96 km.] to the airport for the return flight to Kathmandu Arrive Kathmandu meet assist and drive to hotel.
DAY 11 - FLY PARO,BHUTAN
Arrive by Druk Airbus 319 series, the only national carrier. Taking views of Mt. Everest, Kanchanjunga, Mt. Chomolari, Mt. Jichu Drack, etc. Upon arrival, warm welcome by our representative. Transfer to hotel. Orientation talk and film show about Bhutan. Rest of the day at leisure or visit the local market. O/N hotel.
DAY 12 PARO SIGHTSEEING
visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel dzong which still attracts visitors due to the strategic location of the fort. The fort defended the Paro valley from the Tibetan invasion from the north in the early 17th century. On clear weather Mount Chomolhari 7320 meters can be seen towering over the dzong. Proceed through the beautiful valley to the watch tower or locally known as Ta-Dzong. It was housed into the National museum in the 1960s by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floors museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. The drive to Thimphu is 2 hours and will be a pleasant one mainly due to the luxurious Japanese transportation and well maintained road through out Bhutan. Evening free time. Overnight at Hotel Druk or River view.
DAY 13 : AM THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING
visit the Memorial chorten built in the memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, 15 century Changangkha monastery and the new Drupthob nunnery temple. PM drive 3 hours to Wangduephodrang crossing the Dochula pass 3100 meters. On fine weather you will see the eastern Himalayan ranges including the highest mountain in Bhutan Mt.Gangar Punsum 7520 meters. The drive from the pass is all the way downhill dropping to the lower and warmer valleys of lobesa. Visit the Dzong from outside and the market area. Overnight at Wangdi Kichu Resort.
DAY 14 PUNAKHA DRIVE
AM drive 45 minutes to Punakha and visit the Punakha Dzong which served as an old capital of Bhutan. This remarkable fortress is built between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. Every year during the month of February a procession known as the Punakha Serda takes place to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans. Drive 3 hours to Thimphu for lunch and proceed 2 hours to Paro via visiting the oldest building in Bhutan, the Simtokha Dzong. It now serves as a Buddhist university. Overnight Kichu Resort.
DAY 15 : FLY BACK TO KATHMANDU
You will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your flight. A representative and driver from our office will meet and greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel and help you check into your designated hotel.
DAY 16 - DEPARTURE
